Travel Log: Boulder Adventure

I’ve been updating you all on the adventures of Dragon lately because she’s been having far more exotic adventures that I am at the moment. Still, it seems appropriate to at least drop a note in here to tell you all what I’ve been up to and update you on what is happening in my world. The latest details on this end involve a Boulder adventure.

Boulder Flatirons

Radiation Treatment

I mentioned in the Long Overdue Update: Slacker Edition post that I am back in Colorado. If you missed the details somewhere along the line, I’m currently not travelling because I have a low risk prostate cancer diagnosis. I’ve now met with surgery, brachytherapy, and radiation oncology. After weighing my options with the various specialists the decision on treatment is stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT). My first procedure will be this week on August 31st. Unfortunately, all the scheduling, appointments and procedures just take time which means I will be in Colorado until at least mid-October.

Boulder, CO

Discs with Bill

Our good friend Bill has graciously offered me his basement apartment in Boulder, CO to give me a place to stay while undergoing treatment. I’ve been running most days, biking Boulder’s trails, playing disc golf a lot, and spending time with friends. Boulder is such a fantastic location that it seems like I’m still on my own adventure as well. The Flatirons are just stunning to see this close every day. There is so much to do here. In addition to the activities I mentioned above, there are awesome hikes, great restaurants, street art, interesting architecture, and a seemingly endless well developed urban trail system.

It seems a little strange to tell you about what’s going on in Colorado given I’ve lived in Colorado for over 25 years. Living in Boulder is a new experience though. On a more personal note I’ve also been working on licensure coursework for a career change, something I can work remotely. That is both literally and figuratively super boring, so I won’t bore you with the details at this point. Leave me a message if there are more specific details you’d like about anything. Mostly I just wanted to drop a note letting you all know what’s going on over here. The question is, who’s up next for a round of disc golf?

  1. Hi Bob,
Hope all is well with the treatment. I gather it is taking place in Boulder? Glad you are hanging out with friends, Brendon and Kristin while you are there.
What is your new licensure coursework for career change?

    1. Hi Theresa! I’m actually writing a new post about that right now. In short, I passed my State boards this week for Life and Health Insurance. I’ll talk more about it in the post. I wasn’t quite ready to put it out there until I passed! 🙂
