Travel Log: Liverpool and Liver Birds

August 29, 2023 was a Dragon stop in Liverpool, UK where she was able to go ashore for a walking adventure in the city. Liverpool is a large metropolitan city that is over 800 years old. It is a historic port city in north west England on the Irish Sea that in modern times is perhaps most well known for the Beatles and their top tier football teams, Everton F.C. and Liverpool F.C. Around Liverpool are statues and depictions of the liver bird, a mythical creature that is a symbol of Liverpool’s identity.

Dragon was able to spend the day ashore adventuring through the city. There were many amazing sights to see that blended both ancient and modern architecture. The city is recognized for its many museums, sculptures, art galleries, parks, and historical buildings. The massive Liverpool cathedral was truly imposing.

Despite it being what is likely a typical cloudy day, Dragon and her nurse mate Anthea were able to enjoy a lovely time ashore. Among the many notable sights were a double decker bus diner, multi-story wall murals, locks of love along the waterfront, the famous Beatles statue, and sculptures of an unidentifiable animal.

Ultimately time and rain ended the walking tour of Liverpool. It was a wonderful explore of an amazing city, as well as a timely break from working on the ship. Dragon recommends Liverpool as a great city for future adventures and anyone looking to experience north west England. Maybe one of you can decipher what this animal is.
