Travel Log: A Different Portland

Sorry for the lengthy time between posts people. How about another interesting Dragon stop from September 7th? This one is an update from the English Channel involving a different Portland. Portland, UK is a four mile long tied island on the south coast of England. The history of Isle of Portland on Wikipedia is an interesting read. Among other things, it explains how Portland is an island despite being connected to the mainland by a tombolo.

Hiking, Beaches, and Beers

Dragon was able to go ashore to the Isle of Portland with two of her coworkers. In addition to getting a break from their work routine, they discovered interesting stone architecture, pebble rock beaches, and a nearly 500 year old castle. It was t-shirt weather and perfect for a hike.

After getting their shoes dirty and seeing the sites they made their way back into town. One interesting find was a four level boat garage. It was hiding in plain site behind the helicopter. Before heading back to the ship, team Dragon was able to enjoy some tasty beverages in the sunshine on the coast.

  1. I’ve lived my whole life thinking there were only two Portlands–love that I’m learning things from your travels. And, I learned what a Tombolo is too!
